31 May - 4 June 2010

Presenting

Oral sessions will be held over five days, from Monday morning until lunch on Friday, often with two parallel sessions, as necessary to try to accommodate all interested participants. Plenary keynote talks are allocated 30 minutes, with 25 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions.

Oral presentations will be allocated 20 minutes, of which 15 minutes should be used for the presentation, allowing 5 minutes for discussion and a timely handover to the next presenter and swift change for the audience from session to another. Session chairs are to keep these strict timelines.

Informal receptions will be organised on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, just after the oral sessions, for presenting, viewing, and discussing posters. The poster display area is next to the auditoriums in which the oral sessions will be held, and it will be available throughout the conference, so posters may be displayed for approximately 24 hours before and after the organized sessions.

Meeting rooms will be available on both Sunday and Friday afternoons for participants who may wish to arrange small break-out meetings around the symposium. Please contact the local organisers (igs2010@npolar.no) if you would like to book a meeting room. Such meetings will be in the Polar Environment Centre, near the city centre.

Abstracts

Abstract submission is closed.

Each abstract will be assessed on its scientific quality and relevance to the symposium. Corresponding authors will be advised by 1 February 2010 regarding acceptance of their abstract.

A electronic booklet with the accepted abstracts will be provided to participants at registration. They will also be available before the conference on the internet, and it is preffered that those who want a printed copy print it before the symposium.

Thematic Publication

The Council of the IGS has decided to publish an Annals of Glaciology issue with a sea-ice theme. A first call for papers will be made in November 2009. A paper may be submitted for the issue regardless of whether the author participates in the symposium. Deadline for paper submission is 22 March 2010. All papers should be submitted through the IGS system and will be refereed according to the Society’s regular standards before a publication decision is made. Every effort will be made to have the reviews completed before the symposium so the associate editor and authors can discuss the necessary revisions during the week. Those submitting abstracts to the symposium will be asked to indicate whether they intend to submit a paper for the Annals volume, so reviewers may be sought in advance. Papers submitted for consideration in the Annals may not  be submitted to another publication.

The instructions for authors can be found here.

The page charge policy for publishing in the Annals of Glaciology has not been decided yet but that information will be made available as soon as possible.
